Pelvic Floor
What is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is the set of muscles, ligaments and connective tissue that supports the pelvic and abdominal organs. It also enables the organs in this area (bladder, urethra, uterus, vagina, prostate, seminal vesicles, rectum, anal canal and sphincteric apparatus) to perform their functions correctly.
It is related to continence, sexual and reproductive function, as well as being responsible for lumbar stability. Daily pressure and bad habits (smoking, chronic coughing, heavy lifting) can weaken it causing incontinence or prolapse.
